How Decarbonisation Builds Sovereignty and Resilient Supply Chains

Insights from Inspire & Connect Singapore: Sovereignty, Decarbonisation & Asian Innovation

At the recent Inspire & Connect event organised by Bpifrance in Singapore, global innovators, investors, and industry leaders gathered to discuss one of the most urgent challenges of our time: decarbonising mobility and energy systems while strengthening strategic resilience. Below are three highlights from the program, featuring keynote insights and deep dives into the technologies shaping the future of transport and clean energy.

Keynote by Sébastien Guillaud: Decarbonisation as a Path to Sovereignty

In an energizing keynote, Sébastien Guillaud, Managing Partner at Shift4Good, reframes decarbonisation as a driver of sovereignty rather than a cost. He explores how investing in cleaner industries, smarter energy systems, and climate technologies allows nations and companies to regain control over value chains and reduce exposure to global shocks. Sébastien also highlights the complementary role of AI in making these systems more efficient and resilient.

Bryan Oh of Neu Battery Materials: Reinventing Lithium Through Urban Mining

In this compelling presentation, Bryan Oh, co-founder and CEO of Neu Battery Materials, addresses one of the biggest bottlenecks in the global energy transition: lithium supply. He explains how China’s dominant position in mining and refining creates systemic vulnerabilities—and introduces a breakthrough alternative. Neu Battery Materials has developed a patented water- and electricity-based recycling process that produces green lithium and hydrogen while reducing carbon emissions by five times compared to traditional methods. With operational facilities already running in Singapore, Bryan illustrates how this technology enables scalable, low-carbon production of lithium anywhere in the world. His message is clear: urban mining is emerging as a powerful solution to strengthen supply chain sovereignty and accelerate the shift to clean mobility.

Panel Discussion: Building Resilient Mobility & Energy Systems Across Asia

This dynamic panel brings together leaders from Singapore and Indonesia to explore the future of mobility, logistics, and clean energy. Grace Chia (Beex) shares how autonomous underwater drones are transforming maritime data collection and decarbonisation. Boon Teck Ng (PSA Ventures) outlines how next-generation port technologies can create cleaner, smarter, and more resilient logistics hubs. Praba Gopalan (Indika Energy) provides a candid view of Indonesia’s electric mobility ecosystem—highlighting the delicate balance between domestic capacity building and international partnerships. Rohit Gupta (ComfortDelGro) discusses the strategic role of collaborations in electrifying fleets and operating autonomous vehicles at scale. Together, the panelists offer a rich perspective on innovation and cross-border collaboration in the Asian mobility landscape.
